ROWAN SMITH BAND - SMALL HAPPINESS
Rowan Smith Band present ‘SMALL HAPPINESS’
With Special Guests Gina Hearnden and Billy Baxter
Plus Glenn Bennie (DJ set)
Rowan Smith founded Melbourne bands Macguffins and Barefoot, before moving to Hobart where he has produced a further six solo albums. Following a brilliant St Kilda show last November celebrating his acclaimed ninth album, 'in the key of kintsugi', Rowan has decided to once again call Melbourne home.
In a fitting homecoming - as Rowan penned his first songs for Macguffins living just around the corner from Odeon Richmond - SMALL HAPPINESS is an opportunity to hear his songs up close.
The band includes Macguffins bass player, Michael Paxton, Greenhouse drummer, Craig Mitchell and Gina Hearnden (Blackbirds FC and The Hollowmen).
As a very special support, The Hollowmen's Billy Baxter will join Gina for a set of their favourite alt-country covers.
And Glenn Bennie will be spinning indie, jangle pop and folk rock classics throughout the evening too.

“On song after song Smith shows he is one of the finest lyricists we have, emotional but unsentimental, finding the consolations of philosophy without succumbing to the torments in life or on our screens."
"This is poetic but unfussy songwriting of a kind that will find an audience in every generation. Musical fads rise and fall, great songs endure. Fans of writers such as Edwyn Collins, The Go-Betweens, Lloyd Cole and Elliott Smith, don’t miss this.” NOEL MENGEL - LOUDMOUTH / MUSIC TRUST E-ZINE
" ‘in the key of kintsugi’ is a beautiful album, filled with nuance and delicacy: fragments of shimmering music written over the years but bound together by gentle observant poetry and melodies that shine like veins of gold" ARUN KENDALL - BACKSEAT MAFIA ALBUM REVIEW
"Kintsugi is all about embracing imperfection. Rowan Smith’s new album might not be perfect but, gee, it’s good. Smith’s songs provide solace amidst the chaos of everyday life". JEFF JENKINS - ABC RADIO, RHYTHMS MAGAZINE
"This week, I’m plugging this fantastic collection of songs by long time friend Rowan Smith. File with Grant McLennan, Edwyn Collins, Lloyd Cole, Neil Finn, Paul McCartney". GLENN BENNIE - UNDERGROUND LOVERS
